Why Sending Kids to Religious Schools?
We are a father and a mother of seven growing up children. Since they were born, we have been thinking about their future. Somehow fears creep into our protective minds; how do we ensure a good life to each and everyone of them ...? As we grow older, gaining more parenting knowledge as well as the Islamic life guidance, we began to consider sending them to religious elementary school. There is one nearby and the fee is only RM50 permonth, INCLUDING free meal during the ten o'clock break. There are about 100 other kids and eleven teachers with various qualifications and backgrounds.
The physical...there are two single story buildings, one class for each grade, and a double story wooden musolla/library. A mosque is only a stone throw's away and it is built on a wakaf land. The parents who send their children there range from lecturers, teachers, nurses, clerks, janitors and odd jobbers.
Being small in numbers and land areas, many parents, even ustazs shy away from the school. The REASONS are the same as what you are thinking ...1) can they perform academically? 2) are the teachers there as good as the government school teachers? 3) do they teach English, Math, Science and computers there? 4) can the children get a job? 5) are the children guarateed to behave well all their lives? 6) will we the parents lose our chance to be promoted if 'they' know we send our children there?
I have no answers yet to all the 'unintelligent' probes and queries. As a Moslem, I must think of trying to give the best for my children, here and the hereafter. God will ask about our parental duties, what we have done to ensure the children under our care to do well and saved from the hell fire. Justice is God's many traits, I know He would consider the good deeds I have done even though my children might not be as good Moslems as they should have been. At least I have tried to bring them close to Him, religiously and academically.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ...God is watching our every movement.
